WHEN ADDRESSING TRAUMA AT KIND MIND COUNSELING, WE OFTEN UTILIZE EMDR—A powerful, evidence-based therapy for trauma and distressing life experiences. ALL OF OUR COUNSELORS ARE TRAINED IN THIS APPROACH.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured, integrative therapy designed to help people heal from the emotional distress caused by disturbing life events. Developed by Francine Shapiro in the late 1980s, EMDR has been extensively researched and is recognized as an effective treatment for trauma by organizations such as the American Psychological Association and World Health Organization.

WHAT IS EMDR?

HOW DOES EMDR WORK?

EMDR helps the brain process traumatic memories so they no longer cause intense emotional reactions. The therapy uses bilateral stimulation (usually side-to-side eye movements, tapping, or sounds) while the person focuses on aspects of the disturbing memory. This process helps the brain “digest” and reframe the experience, reducing its emotional charge.
